Permanent Placement Questions and Answers:
Temporary Placement Questions and Answers:
Are all the jobs you list real and current?
Yes. The database you see online is generated through the same system we use internally to track our positions so the listings you see are as current as the listings we see.
How do I know you won't tell me the truth about a job just to make a placement?
Because we just don’t work that way, but there also are pragmatic reasons for always being completely straight with every client and candidate. As we will refund the placement fee for any match that does not prove to meet the client’s needs, we would be doing ourselves no favor to place someone who will leave. Furthermore, our business has been based upon our reputation for professionalism since 1990. We would not have been so successful in this profession if we were not known for our integrity in everything we do.
How often can I change jobs before it becomes a problem?
This is a difficult question to answer. Some moves are usual in most attorneys’ careers and can be explained easily. An excessive number of changes of positions, however, may need more careful explanation. This is the kind of question perhaps best discussed specifically with one of our professionals. Each of our candidates is presented to our clients with a careful evaluation that includes a thoughtful analysis of career changes.
I am not really sure what I want to do next. Is there anyone in your office who can give me some career counseling? If so, what will it cost?
One of our professionals always will be delighted to speak with you about some of the opportunities available in the legal community and to discuss other alternatives, even alternatives outside the conventional practice of law. The more senior members of our staff have offered such counseling service both to individual attorneys and, pro bono, through programs of the Philadelphia Bar Association for many years. There is absolutely no charge to you for such services. Also, we find that candidates who take advantage of one of our temporary positions are able to test their options.
What if someone sees me coming to your offices?
We are happy to meet you at a time that should assure you are unlikely to see someone you know. Also, having our offices in a major office building means you could be going to one of hundreds of other businesses, including law firms, accounting firms, insurance companies, or business consultants.
What is the charge to me for using your services?
Absolutely nothing - ever. Clients pay for our successful placements and the "value added" services we provide candidates are just another part of our commitment to excellence.
Can I work from home?
On occasion we do have positions that can include significant work from home, particularly if you have good computer facilities there.
Do contract jobs ever become permanent?
Frequently they do, but, if a permanent position is your eventual goal, just be sure to let one of our professionals know that fact when you first register as an Abelson temp.
How long do I have to commit for?
You tell our professionals for how long you wish to work, and we will find a project that meets those needs. Some of our projects are quite short; others may last for years. You have the absolute right to say what fits your requirements.
Other than making money, why should I take a contract position?
There are many rewards to contract employment as well as the obvious monetary ones. Many people find contract positions give them a unique, personal control of the number of hours they work each week. Others like the change of work and surroundings, as well as the opportunity to meet and work with new people. Still others like to be able to schedule substantial blocks of time to meet other, personal commitments. Some of our contract employees are waiting for the results of state licensure exams before practicing in a particular jurisdiction. Speak to one of our professionals about what contract positions can do for you.
What happens if I find a permanent position when I am engaged on a project?
Your contract employment counselor will explain to you the required notification period for a particular position. Notification usually is not longer than a week.
What kinds of positions do you have for contract work?
We have all types of work available, in many specialty areas. We have part-time, short-term and long-term contract positions.
